Middlesbrough has created the Guiding Light Project which is part of the national Making Every Adult Matter (MEAM) approach network which helps local areas design and deliver better coordinated services for people experiencing multiple disadvantage.
The System Change Coordinator will work alongside partner agencies and professionals to address system barriers and promote system change for people experiencing multiple disadvantage in Middlesbrough.
People facing multiple disadvantage experience a combination of problems including homelessness, substance misuse, contact with the criminal justice system and mental ill health. They fall through the gaps between services and systems, making it harder for them to address their problems and lead fulfilling lives.
As professionals working within the support sector, we need to change to the ‘system’ to meet the needs of the most vulnerable members of our community. Evidence has shown that better coordinated interventions from statutory and voluntary agencies work to support those with multiple disadvantages more effectively. Nationally and locally, services continue to operate in isolation; people with experience of multiple disadvantage continue to have limited power over the decisions that affect them and often fall through the gaps.
If you feel that you can lead on system change the MEAM System Change Coordinator is an ideal opportunity for you. The post has been created on a fixed term to cover the maternity leave of our current System Change Coordinator as we want to ensure that progress within Middlesbrough is maintained over the next 12 months.
You will be expected to be an ambassador for the MEAM approach, to chair the Guiding Light Operational Partnership meetings and to lead on an action plan which addresses system barriers. The MEAM network will be available to support you in your role and offers peer support and national resources.
Whilst in post there will be development opportunities alongside flexible working with the option of a blended working environment (home and office where appropriate). New staff joining Middlesbrough can expect a warm welcome from the teams, our Director and Chief Executive and full induction process.
At Middlesbrough, we truly live our values and incorporate them into everything we do. We are passionate about improving the lives of our residents, focused on achieving best outcomes and creative in the way we work with customers, ensuring they get the best support available.
