The Ethnic Minority Achievement Team (EMAT) are seeking a suitably experienced EAL Teaching Assistant to join the team for a fixed term period. This is a temporary post due to grant funding.
The role will involve supporting newly arrived children from abroad, who have little or no English, in Middlesbrough Primary and Secondary schools. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who is passionate about improving educational outcomes for International New Arrivals to the Middlesbrough area.
Applicants must have experience of teaching English as an Additional Language to children and young people. The ability to communicate effectively, use your initiative and be flexible, is as important as experience and qualifications.
The EAL Teaching Assistant priority areas will include:
Support the delivery of language and learning strategies for identified International New Arrival pupils.
Assist in delivering the Transition Programme for Newly Arrived pupils.
Support individuals and groups of pupils enabling access to learning through using EAL strategies.
Manage Language Proficiency Assessments for pupils.
Prepare bilingual or other appropriate learning resources to support EAL pupils.
