The Revenues and Benefits service provides vital services to the Council in the collection of Council Tax and Business Rates, and the assessment and payment of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction.
Middlesbrough Council are looking to recruit a highly motivated individual to our vacant Revenues and Benefits Technician role.
In line with the Council's values and as part of a busy and fast moving environment, you will be required to deal professionally, promptly and efficiently with complex customer enquiries through all customer channels for all aspects of Revenues and Benefits services, including complaints, representing the Council at appeals, tribunal and Magistrate Court hearings.
A key part of the role is to interpret complex legislation and to support testing the system following upgrades and changes in legislation.
The successful candidate will assist in skills training for other team members to ensure all work is dealt with to conclusion in an accurate and timely manner and in accordance with all relevant statutory regulations, policies and procedures.
You must demonstrate a strong knowledge/experience in Council Tax/Business Rates Billing and Recovery processing activities and/or experience in Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support processing activities/legislation.
You will have a good standard of education to GCSE level or equivalent, be able to build excellent relationships with a strong focus on team work, be well organised, and able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

The post is generic within our Revenues and Benefits service, and the successful candidate may be required to work across all aspects of our service.
